In June 2002 a regular League game was about to begin when Alan Jefferey decided to try his hand at poker. With only Seven players entering, this gave this newcomer a good chance of claiming a victory in his very first appearance. Unfortunately Alan’s knowledge to the game of poker was very small and ended up being the second player to be knocked out and with that never to bee seen in the poker scene again. Oh so it seemed.

Three years later, Alan was asked by Tournament Director Cush to come back and compete in league again. Alan agreed, and with 3 hour crash course the night before playing against Cush and Hamid giving hints and tips he felt confident for the challenge ahead.

The moment of truth arrived it was Saturday night and with a total of 17 entrants to the game it was going to be one hell of a battle. Within 15 mins of the tournament starting Alan managed to knock out former league champion Rob Devitt. He then went on to knock out a further 5 players including another former league champion and his mentor Cush. Alan battled all the way to the very end with a heads-up game against Michael Mclinden who had won the previous months game. When Alan called Michael's all-in he saw that he had a 91% chance of winning as Michael was going for an inside straight draw which only gave him a 9% chance of getting the Jack he needed, Alan could almost smell the victory. The final card was dealt and against all odds it gave Michael his straight and he went on to win the tournament.

Coming so close to winning and now being the only player to knock out 6 other player in on night I’m sure we will see great things from this man. - April 2005.
